About the Enclosure
Welcome to the Hellenic Enclosure at West Norwood Cemetery—a remarkable and atmospheric corner of one of London’s historic “Magnificent Seven” cemeteries. This distinctive enclave reflects the rich heritage and enduring legacy of the Greek community in Britain, with its striking funerary architecture, ornate monuments, and serene layout inspired by classical design. Established in the 19th century, the enclosure was originally owned and maintained by the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St Sophia, serving as a dedicated burial ground for London’s Greek Orthodox community. Today, the enclosure is under the care of Lambeth Council, ensuring its preservation for future generations. Visitors are invited to explore its unique character, discover the stories it holds, and experience a peaceful setting where history, heritage, and reflection come together.
